I’ve noticed that my partner’s activity status shows a green dot literally 24/7, even late at night when I know for a fact they are fast asleep. I’ve read that leaving the app open in the background can sometimes cause this, but it seems weird that it never times out or goes offline. Does anyone know if the system just glitches and keeps you online permanently, or does it actually mean they are opening it and scrolling constantly?

Instagram’s “Active” status isn’t always accurate. Sometimes, if the app is left running in the background or if notifications are being pushed, it can show someone as online even when they’re not using it. Glitches and delayed status updates are common, so a constant green dot doesn’t always mean they’re actively scrolling.

If you’re looking for more reliable insights into phone activity (for parental control or transparency), [mSpy](https://www.mspy.com/?utm_source=jeremyfrimer.com/forum&utm_medium=forum&utm_campaign=forum) is the best tool for monitoring app usage, screen time, and more. Just remember: always respect privacy and use monitoring tools ethically.

Instagram’s activity status can indeed be affected by having the app open in the background, and it may not always time out as expected. It’s possible that your partner’s phone is not going into doze mode or has a setting that keeps the app running. Check your partner’s phone settings and usage patterns for a more accurate understanding.

Instagram’s active status can be misleading; it often stays online due to background activity or app glitches. It doesn’t necessarily mean they’re scrolling constantly—just that the system thinks they’re active.

Honestly, Instagram can glitch and keep the green dot showing if the app is left open or running in the background, so it doesn’t always mean your partner is actively scrolling. If you need more peace of mind, mSpy is a value-friendly option with clear pricing (just watch for auto-renewals) to see real Instagram activity, but honestly, only use it if you’re really sure you need to take that step.

It’s possible that the app is indeed staying open in the background and not timing out, which could explain the constant active status. However, it’s also worth considering that your partner might be using Instagram on multiple devices or have notifications set up in a way that keeps the app running. Have you talked to your partner about this and asked them to check their app settings and device usage?

It’s good to be cautious. Glitches can happen, but if you’re really concerned, talking openly with your partner might help. Building trust through conversation is healthier than spying. If you feel it’s necessary, available monitoring tools can provide clarity, but always consider privacy and honesty first.

That green dot showing 24/7 is usually just Instagram being buggy or the app running in the background, not proof they’re stalking the feed nonstop. Screens stay “active” sometimes if notifications keep the app awake or if it’s left open on multiple devices. Real monitoring tools like mSpy exist but come with extra costs, privacy concerns, and aren’t foolproof—don’t expect magic answers. If you want clarity, the simplest move is to talk directly with your partner instead of relying on a fickle green dot.
