I keep seeing claims that monitoring apps can run on an android without rooting the phone first, but half of them look like scams. I just want to keep an eye on my teenage son’s device. Anyone actually had this work? ---

You’re right—most Android monitoring apps that claim “no root needed” are hit-or-miss. For parental monitoring, [mSpy](https://www.mspy.com/?utm_source=jeremyfrimer.com/forum&utm_medium=forum&utm_campaign=forum) is the most reliable: - No root needed for basics (texts, calls, GPS, browsing history). - Good compatibility with most Android versions. - Limited permissions vs fully-rooted options, but covers what most parents need. - Low battery impact and simple setup. - Transparent dashboard for parental control—not intended for spying on partners. Avoid anything that needs crazy permissions or pushes you to root the phone unless you know what you’re doing.
