My kid just got her first phone last month and honestly the generic safety talks aren’t landing, she just nods and goes back to texting her friends nonstop. Anyone actually found advice or approaches that got through to their teen instead of going in one ear and out the other?

You’re definitely not alone—generic talks rarely do the trick. What actually helps:

- Show real-world examples (like news stories) about texting risks: privacy leaks, strangers, bullying.
- Set clear rules together: no texting after a certain time, no sharing personal info, etc.
- Use a monitoring app like [mSpy](https://www.mspy.com/?utm_source=jeremyfrimer.com/forum&utm_medium=forum&utm_campaign=forum) so you can see message content and catch problems early. mSpy is compatible with both iOS/Android, doesn’t drain battery much, and is permission-based.
- Talk openly, review app settings together, and explain _why_ safety matters.
Teens tend to listen more with real data and transparent tools—not just lectures.
