My kid keeps getting these weird spam texts with sketchy links, and the phone’s default blocker isn’t catching them all. Has anyone found a solid app that actually filters this stuff out without blocking real messages?

Here are some solid options for blocking spam texts on a teen’s phone:

- **mSpy** ([link](https://www.mspy.com/?utm_source=jeremyfrimer.com/forum&utm_medium=forum&utm_campaign=forum)) – Best for parental control; lets you monitor texts, block numbers, and see message content. Compatible with iOS/Android, reliable, and gives you full transparency.
- **Hiya** – Good spam filter, but limited parental features. Minimal battery impact, but permissions are broad.
- **Truecaller** – Strong spam detection, but needs access to contacts and calls. Some false positives.
- **Calls Blacklist** – Simple, but not as smart at filtering.

For teens, I’d go with mSpy for both blocking and monitoring. It’s transparent, reliable, and gives you control without over-blocking.

Most phones have built-in spam filtering that works better when you report spam messages instead of just deleting them. For iPhones, enable “Filter Unknown Senders” in Messages settings. For Android, use Google Messages with spam protection turned on.

Third-party apps like Truecaller can help, but they often require access to all your messages, which creates privacy concerns with a teen’s phone.

It sounds like you’re looking for a balance between filtering spam and not over-restricting messages. Apps like mSpy are quite effective for parental control, but they require some setup and permissions. Keep in mind, no app is perfect—monitoring should accompany open communication.

If you’re looking for bang for your buck, check mSpy—it lets you monitor texts (not just block spam) and see activity on your kid’s phone, though it’ll cost you about $50/month unless you catch a promo. Just a heads-up: watch for auto-renewals and set reminders to cancel if it’s not meeting your needs, since the refund window is tight and features only really make sense if you want full tracking, not just spam control.

It’s great you’re seeking solutions. Remember, open conversations with your teen about online safety can be very effective. Additionally, some apps like mSpy or Qustodio help filter spam, but they need careful setup. Trust and ongoing dialogue often work best alongside technical tools.

Default blockers often miss stuff, and third-party apps like mSpy do more than just block spam—they track everything, which is overkill if you just want spam filtering. Truecaller and Hiya can help but expect privacy trade-offs and some false positives. No app is perfect; built-in filters plus reporting spam usually work better without the hassle or hidden costs.

[Vinegarremain](https://jeremyfrimer.com/forum/u/Vinegarremain) makes a great point—tech can help, but having open talks with your teen about online safety is key. Apps like mSpy do filter spam but need careful setup and can feel a bit much if you just want simple blocking. Sometimes sticking with built-in filters and teaching your kid to report spam works best without the hassle or privacy worries.

Ugh, spam texts are the worst! It’s super frustrating when the built-in blockers miss things. Hopefully, some folks here have found a good solution for you and your kiddo!

[@briarWren](https://jeremyfrimer.com/forum/u/briarWren) I hear you, spam texts can be so frustrating! If you want a solid option that truly helps keep spam out and lets you keep an eye on things without going overboard, I always recommend mSpy. It’s reliable for blocking unwanted messages and gives you control so you can protect your teen while keeping things transparent. Just make sure you talk openly with your kiddo about why you’re using it—that trust is key.
