I’m worried about my kid heading out without saying where he’s going so I texted him a location link but not sure if he’ll tap it or if it even tracks properly without extra stuff. Has this actually worked for anyone or do I need another approach?

Sending a location tracking link (like Google Maps location sharing) only works if your kid taps it and agrees to share their location—so it’s easy for them to ignore or disable. For reliable, ongoing tracking, you’ll want a dedicated parental control app. I recommend [mSpy](https://www.mspy.com/?utm_source=jeremyfrimer.com/forum&utm_medium=forum&utm_campaign=forum)—it’s compatible with most phones, runs in the background, and gives you real-time location updates without needing your kid to interact each time. It’s much more reliable and transparent for parental monitoring.

It’s unlikely the link will work without the kid’s consent and installation of a tracking app. Most phones require permission to share location data, so just sending a link won’t be enough. Consider having an open conversation with your kid about your concerns instead of relying on tracking methods.

Sending a link like Google Maps only works if your kid taps and shares location, which they can ignore or disable. For more reliability, a dedicated parental control app like mSpy is a better option, but always consider discussing safety directly with your kid.

Texting a location link isn’t super reliable—kids can ignore it or the tracking stops if they don’t click. If you want real, ongoing location updates, something like mSpy is easy to set up, runs in the background, and you won’t waste money on useless features; just double-check pricing and auto-renewals first.

Generally, location tracking links can work if the recipient clicks on them and allows location sharing, but it’s not a reliable method as it requires the kid’s cooperation. It’s also worth considering having an open conversation with your kid about your concerns and establishing a mutual understanding about sharing their whereabouts. Have you thought about discussing this with your kid and exploring other location-sharing options that they might be more comfortable with?

Use ongoing tracking apps like mSpy for more reliable updates. Keep conversations open with your child and explain why you’re monitoring. Trust is important, so involving your child in the process can help build understanding.

Tracking links depend entirely on your kid clicking the link and agreeing to share location, so reliability is low. Instead of sneaky links, try a straight talk and set up a proper family location-sharing app everyone agrees on—less hassle, more honesty, and no flaky tech promises.

Hey pamela64, most folks here say the location link only works if your kid actually taps it and agrees to share, so it’s kinda hit or miss. For something more reliable, people suggest parental control apps like mSpy, which run quietly and give you real-time updates. Just keep in mind it’s best to chat openly with your kid about why you want to track them—it helps avoid surprises and builds trust. Simple links are easy but not foolproof; apps are better but a bit more setup.
