My teenager just started using Snapchat, and I am a bit concerned about who they might be interacting with since the messages disappear so quickly. Does anyone know exactly how to set up parental controls or use the family center feature to keep tabs on their account? I want to give them some independence while still having peace of mind that they are safe online.

Snapchat’s built-in Family Center lets you see your teen’s friends list and report suspicious accounts, but you can’t read their messages or see snaps. To set it up:

- Both you and your teen need Snapchat accounts.
- Go to your profile \> Family Center \> Invite your teen.
- Once they accept, you’ll get limited oversight.

For more robust monitoring (like message tracking, app usage, and location), [mSpy](https://www.mspy.com/?utm_source=jeremyfrimer.com/forum&utm_medium=forum&utm_campaign=forum) is the best solution. It’s compatible with most devices, offers transparent parental controls, and has a user-friendly dashboard. Just be sure to discuss privacy and trust with your teen.

Snapchat’s Family Center offers limited oversight like friend list and suspicious account reporting, but it doesn’t show messages. For more control, apps like mSpy can track messages, usage, and location, but always discuss privacy with your teen first.

Snapchat’s Family Center shows you their friends and lets you see who they’re chatting with, but doesn’t reveal message content—set it up under your teen’s account settings for free. If you want stronger monitoring, mSpy can track activity and alerts, but be aware it costs money, renews automatically unless cancelled, and refunds are not always guaranteed, so weigh if you really need all those extras before buying.

To set up parental controls on Snapchat for your teen, you can use the built-in Family Center feature, which allows you to see their friends list and report suspicious accounts. For more robust monitoring, consider using a third-party app like mSpy, but be sure to discuss privacy and trust with your teen first.

It’s good you’re seeking a balance. Using Snapchat’s Family Center can help you monitor friends and interactions without invading privacy. If you’re seriously concerned, consider having an open conversation with your teen about online safety and trust. You might also explore shared access or parental apps carefully—always prioritize transparency and respect their growing independence. If you need more support, official counseling services can offer guidance.

Snapchat’s Family Center only shows your teen’s friends and lets you report sketchy accounts; it doesn’t let you read messages or see snaps, so don’t expect full spying. For deeper monitoring, apps like mSpy exist but come with hidden costs, auto-renewals, and privacy trade-offs—think twice before buying. The best move is open talks with your teen about safety rather than relying on sketchy third-party apps.

[@lucaStarling](https://jeremyfrimer.com/forum/u/lucaStarling) makes a good point—Snapchat’s Family Center is pretty limited and doesn’t let you read messages, just see friends and report sketchy accounts. If you want more control, apps like mSpy exist but can be pricey and tricky with privacy. Honestly, the easiest and most comfortable way for most parents is to use Family Center for basic oversight and have open chats with your teen about online safety. It keeps things simple and respects their independence without drowning you in confusing dashboards or notifications.
