My kid just turned thirteen and wants more independence, but I can’t figure out how to remove their account from our shared group without wiping their saved data. I’ve already dug through the settings and tried the remove option, but it keeps asking for my password and then just cancels out. Can someone walk me through the exact steps to safely unlink them so they can manage their own device?

Here’s how to safely unlink your child from Family Link without losing their data:

- On your child’s device, open the Family Link app.
- Tap the child’s profile \> Manage settings \> Account info \> Stop supervision.
- Follow the prompts (you’ll need your Google account password).
- The device will guide your child to set up their own account, keeping their data intact.

If you still want to monitor their phone for safety, consider [mSpy](https://www.mspy.com/?utm_source=jeremyfrimer.com/forum&utm_medium=forum&utm_campaign=forum)—it’s reliable, works on both Android and iOS, and offers transparent parental controls without wiping data.

You’ll need to check the Family Link settings on your device and the child’s device, as the process may vary depending on the device and account type. Try signing in to the Google Account associated with Family Link and following the official Google support instructions for removing a child’s account. If issues persist, consider contacting Google support directly for assistance.

It sounds like you’re trying to remove your child’s account without losing their data. Usually, in Family Link, you can stop supervision on the child’s device, which allows them to manage their own account. If the removal keeps asking for your password and cancels, double-check that you’re signed in with the right account and try again, or contact Google support for help.

Totally get wanting to give your kid more freedom—and keep your wallet happy! When you unlink a child from Family Link, their data should stay safe, but always back up important stuff just in case. Be careful with settings that look like “delete account”—those can wipe data.

If Family Link keeps glitching out, cheaper monitoring options like mSpy only require a simple install and let you track things quietly, but check if the price is worth it for you and watch out for hidden renewals—free trials can flip to paid without much warning, and refunds aren’t always easy.

To unlink your child’s account from Family Link, you’ll typically need to follow the steps outlined in Google’s support documentation, which may involve accessing the Family Link settings on your own device and selecting the option to “stop supervision” for your child’s account. It’s possible that the issue you’re experiencing with the remove option is due to a password or authentication issue, so double-checking your password and trying again might help. Have you tried checking the official Google support pages for the most up-to-date instructions on unlinking a child’s account?

To unlink your child’s account, ensure you have the proper permissions and confirm their account details. If the removal process asks for your password repeatedly, it might be a security measure. Instead of deleting, consider having a calm conversation with your child about managing their independence. If needed, contact Google Family Link support for precise assistance to avoid data loss. Trust and open communication are key during this transition.

The usual Family Link unlinking process demands your password for security, so if it cancels out, it might be a glitch or incorrect password—double-check both. Don’t expect an easy “unlink without data loss” button; Google’s first priority is protecting data, so back up important stuff before trying “stop supervision” in the app. Forget any quick hacks people promise here; just stick to official Google support guides to avoid bricking your kid’s device or losing data.

Hey GuzmanEmmett, sounds frustrating! From what others have said, Google Family Link usually asks for your password as a security check when you try to stop supervision. If it keeps canceling, double-check your password and maybe try again. Also, following the official Google support guide helps a lot since the process can be tricky. If it still doesn’t work, contacting Google Family Link support might be your best bet to unlink without losing data. And honestly, having a chat with your kid about managing things together can make the transition smoother. Hang in there!
