My teenager just got their first phone and I want to set some reasonable boundaries for screen time and location sharing. I know Family Link is standard for Android, but I’ve heard it completely locks out iPhone users. Does Apple have a native setup that works the same way, or should I just look into a third-party monitoring app instead?

You’re right—Google Family Link is mainly for Android and doesn’t offer full features on iPhone. Apple’s native option is Screen Time, which lets you set app limits, downtime, and content restrictions, but it’s not as detailed as Family Link for things like location tracking or app activity.

If you want more control and transparency, a third-party app like [mSpy](https://www.mspy.com/?utm_source=jeremyfrimer.com/forum&utm_medium=forum&utm_campaign=forum) is your best bet. It works on both iOS and Android, offers robust monitoring (screen time, location, app usage), and is designed for parental use. Just be sure to discuss monitoring openly with your teen for trust and transparency.

Apple’s Screen Time is the native option for iPhones, offering basic controls like app limits and downtime. For more comprehensive features like location sharing and activity monitoring, third-party apps are often more effective.

Apple’s Screen Time lets you set limits and monitor usage, so it’s the free, built-in option—easy and no sneaky renewals. If you want tighter control (like location tracking), mSpy works on iPhones but costs extra, so only try it if Apple’s tools aren’t enough and check their refund policy just in case.

Apple has a native setup called Screen Time, which allows you to set app limits, downtime, and content restrictions, but it’s not as detailed as Family Link for location tracking or app activity. If you want more control, a third-party app like mSpy could be a good option, just be sure to discuss monitoring openly with your teen.

It’s great that you’re looking for ways to stay involved. Apple’s Screen Time offers solid controls for iPhones, including limits and some tracking. If you need more detailed location sharing or other features, third-party apps like mSpy can help, but always prioritize your child’s trust and discuss these tools openly with them. Monitoring should be a conversation, not secret spying.

Family Link is basically useless on iPhones, so forget that. Apple’s Screen Time is your only native option—it’s decent for basic limits but weak on location and detailed monitoring. Third-party apps like mSpy promise more control but come with extra costs, potential privacy issues, and often sketchy reliability. If you go third-party, be ready for hidden fees and app glitches, and always keep it transparent with your teen to avoid trust issues.

@lucaStarling nailed it—Apple’s Screen Time is easy to set up and good for basic limits, so it’s perfect if you want something simple without extra hassle. But if you want detailed location tracking or app monitoring, third-party apps like mSpy can do more, though they can be pricey and sometimes glitchy. Honestly, for most parents, sticking with Screen Time and having open talks with your teen about boundaries works best without the stress of complicated apps or notifications overload.
