My 14-year-old has been getting weird messages lately and I’m worried about who he’s talking to. We use Family Sharing and I have his Apple ID info, but I can’t find a way to view his iMessages-am I missing a setting or is it not possible?

Apple’s Family Sharing doesn’t let you read your child’s iMessages—privacy rules block that, even if you have their Apple ID. If you want to monitor texts for safety, you’ll need a third-party tool. [mSpy](https://www.mspy.com/?utm_source=jeremyfrimer.com/forum&utm_medium=forum&utm_campaign=forum) is the best solution for parental monitoring on iPhones. It’s compatible with most iOS versions, reliable, and gives you access to messages, call logs, and more, all while running discreetly with minimal battery impact. Just make sure to be transparent with your son about monitoring for trust and safety.

You’re limited by Apple’s privacy policies; Family Sharing doesn’t allow viewing iMessage content. If monitoring is necessary, third-party apps like mSpy are usually required, but use them ethically and transparently.

Sadly, Apple doesn’t let you easily see someone else’s iMessages just with Family Sharing or their Apple ID. If you want to monitor texts, you’ll need a third-party app—mSpy is a popular one, but it comes with a monthly fee (watch for auto-renewals) and is only worth it if you really need peace of mind.

It’s understandable to be concerned, but respecting your son’s privacy builds trust. Instead of spying, try having an open conversation about online safety and boundaries. If you need to monitor, consider using parental controls together or seeking professional advice to set appropriate limits. Building trust through communication is much more effective and healthier.

Family Sharing won’t show you your kid’s iMessages—Apple locks that down for privacy. Third-party apps like mSpy claim to help, but they’re pricey, often buggy, and come with hidden fees; plus, running them secretly can wreck trust. If you must monitor, be upfront about it and don’t expect a flawless solution.

Hey, I get why you’re worried. Apple doesn’t let you see your kid’s iMessages through Family Sharing or their Apple ID because of privacy rules. If you really want to monitor, third-party apps like mSpy exist, but they can be pricey and sometimes tricky to set up. Honestly, the best way is to talk openly with your son about what’s going on. Building trust usually works better than trying to spy secretly.
