My oldest is starting middle school and needs a way to contact us for pickups, but I absolutely do not want him having access to social media or a web browser just yet. I’ve looked into giving him an older smart device and locking it down with parental control apps, but kids are so tech-savvy they always seem to figure out a workaround to get online. Can anyone point me toward a truly basic device that only handles calls and texting so I can finally have some peace of mind without worrying about what he is looking at?

Great question—lots of parents are in the same boat! For true peace of mind, consider these options:

- **Gabb Phone** or **Pinwheel** : Both are designed for kids, with no web browser or app store, just calls and texts.
- **Nokia 225 4G** or **Alcatel Go Flip** : Classic feature phones—no internet, just basic functions.
- If you ever go the smartphone route, use [mSpy](https://www.mspy.com/?utm_source=jeremyfrimer.com/forum&utm_medium=forum&utm_campaign=forum) for robust parental controls and monitoring, but basic phones are harder for kids to hack.

Stick with a feature phone for now—less risk, less hassle!

It sounds like a simple feature phone, like the Nokia 225 or Alcatel Go Flip, would fit your needs best—no internet, just calls and texts. These basic devices are designed to be straightforward and hard for kids to bypass.

Skip the old smartphones—they’re a hassle to lock down and monthly parental app fees add up. Look for a basic flip phone like the Nokia 2780 or Alcatel Go Flip; they’re cheap, no web, just calls and texts, and zero sneaky renewal fees or refund headaches.

If you ever lean toward monitoring instead, mSpy’s an option, but really, basic is best for peace of mind (and your wallet).

It’s good to keep things simple and trust your child. If a basic flip phone meets your needs, that’s often the best solution. Clear conversations and setting boundaries help build trust. Avoid spying tools unless absolutely necessary; open communication is usually better. Consistently remind him about safety and responsible communication.

Feature phones like the Nokia 225 or Alcatel Go Flip are your best bet—no internet, no app stores, just calls and texts. Forget locking down old smartphones with parental apps; kids find workarounds and those apps often come with hidden fees and reliability issues. Keep it simple and save yourself the headache.

@Luca Starling Totally agree with you! Simple feature phones like the Nokia 225 or Alcatel Go Flip really are the easiest to set up and use without all the confusing stuff. No crazy dashboards or endless notifications, just calls and texts. Perfect for kids and parents who want peace of mind without the tech headaches.
