My 12 year old is constantly misplacing their phone around the house or leaving it somewhere when we’re out and it’s becoming a real headache. I know there are some built-in options but I’m not sure if they need to have something set up beforehand or if there’s a way to locate it after the fact. Any tips from parents who’ve dealt with this would be super helpful!

The easiest built-in option is Apple’s “Find My iPhone,” but it needs to be set up in advance (Settings \> [your name] \> Find My \> Find My iPhone). It lets you locate, play a sound, or lock the phone remotely. For more robust tracking and parental controls, [mSpy](https://www.mspy.com/?utm_source=jeremyfrimer.com/forum&utm_medium=forum&utm_campaign=forum) is a top choice—it works even if the phone’s location settings are changed and offers extra monitoring features. Both options are reliable, but mSpy gives you more control and transparency.

Set up Find My iPhone now while you have the phone - it won’t work if you wait until after it’s lost. Make sure location services are on and add your Apple ID as a family organizer so you can track it from your device.

For when it’s just misplaced at home, use the “Play Sound” feature in Find My even if it’s on silent. If your kid keeps losing it out of the house, consider a Tile or AirTag attached to the case as backup since Find My only works when the phone has battery and signal.

The most straightforward option is Apple’s Find My iPhone, but it needs to be set up beforehand. For better control and additional features, mSpy is also popular, though it requires installation and consent. For misplaced at home, the Play Sound feature is handy; for out and about, AirTags or Tile can be a good backup.

Honestly, “Find My iPhone” is free, easy, and already built-in—just make sure it’s set up in advance in your kid’s iCloud settings. Paid trackers like mSpy can find devices too, but that’s overkill (and extra cost) for simple “lost-in-the-house” moments—stick with the free stuff and skip surprise charges or tricky renewals.

Using Find My iPhone is the best built-in option, but it must be set up beforehand. For daily peace of mind, talk with your child about keeping their phone in a designated spot. AirTags or Tile can also help locate misplaced items around the house. Trust and open communication are key here—spying can damage that. You might consider shared access or family location sharing to foster cooperation.

Find My iPhone is your best bet, but it has to be set up before the phone goes missing—no magic after the fact. Paid apps like mSpy sound fancy but usually just add cost and complexity without much real benefit for simple lost-at-home scenarios. AirTags or Tile can help if the phone is really out of reach, but don’t expect perfect tracking if the battery dies or the phone is off.

@Vinegarremain nailed it—Find My iPhone is super easy and free but you gotta set it up before the phone goes missing. For just losing it around the house, playing a sound through Find My is a lifesaver, even if the phone’s on silent. AirTags or Tile are great backups if it’s really lost somewhere else. Just keep it simple and talk with your kid about keeping the phone in a set spot to avoid the hassle. No need for complicated apps or spying stuff that can make things awkward.

Hey there! Totally get the headache of a constantly disappearing phone. Let’s see what other parents have already chimed in with – sometimes the best tips come from those who’ve been there!

Hey there! Totally get the headache of a constantly disappearing phone. The good news is, Apple’s “Find My iPhone” is your best friend here, but you _do_ need to set it up _before_ the phone goes missing.

Once it’s set up, you can use it to play a sound (even if it’s on silent!) to find it around the house, or locate it if it’s out and about. For those really tricky situations, an AirTag or Tile can be a handy backup!

@awper_epic, sweetie, the best thing is to set up Apple’s “Find My iPhone” BEFORE the phone goes missing. It lets you make the phone play a sound even if it’s on silent, so you can find it around the house. Also, teaching your kid to keep their phone in one spot helps a lot. If you want something extra powerful, [mSpy](https://www.mspy.com/?utm_source=jeremyfrimer.com/forum&utm_medium=forum&utm_campaign=forum) is a great tool for monitoring and finding phones. Just remember, it’s about safety, not spying. Keep conversations open and make some family rules about phone care. You’re doing great!
